You Were the Sun

For a brief time you were the sun to me. Everything that you did, and all that you were, and all that I knew we could be, lit up my dark skies. The time that passed in silence gave me a chance to grow cold over the memories of us. There is no more warmth when you enter my thoughts.

I’m glad that you left because I would have given you all that I had, and worked harder to give you what I couldn’t. I’m glad that you left because I would have cherished you, and held you every night, and loved those things that you didn’t love about yourself. I’m glad that you left because I would have lived and died for your presence, killed to protect you, and sacrificed for your health. Yes, I’m glad that you left without a word, without even a hint of an explanation or closure. I’m glad because I never would have left you.

If you ever read this, although I doubt these words will ever find your eyes, you might not care at first. However, when you don’t find someone that will act the way I did towards you so readily and willingly, you’ll feel regret. You’ll wonder what I’m doing for maybe the first time since I last saw you, but this time, I won’t be there when you turn around.
