My Lament

I feel Thou hast abandoned me;
Forsake me not, O Lord.

Thine absence burns like fire,
Yet all I have done is grumble.

I shall not survive much longer this way,
Unless Thou knowest that I can.

This cross is the narrow way,
Still I cannot understand it.

Thy will be done in me,
Even if I cannot bear it.

Unexpected changes take shape,
I feel anything good could happen.

Changes fail again to culminate,
I learn false hope cannot ameliorate.

How much longer shall I grasp in this dark
Before Thou wilt show Thyself again?

Help me, O Lord, help me,
I have nothing I can offer Thee.
