It’s a relationship that’s to be cultivated beyond courting, and beyond the Sacrament. It’s not just two becoming one in body, but also in soul. It’s not for the fulfillment of passions, but for the salvation of our souls.
As St. John Chrysostom says: “If a man and a woman marry in order to be companions on the journey from earth to heaven, then their union will bring great joy to themselves and to others.”
God knows who that companion is for us, so trust Him, not your own understanding.
