The Master of Time

While reading through a writing prompt journal I barely used years ago, I found a short paragraph I wrote on August 20, 2016 that I’d like to share. The prompt said, “Look around you and choose an object in the room. Now write something from the point of view of that object.” I chose the large, analog clock on the wall of my condo, and wrote the following, errors and all:

“Isn’t it ironic that you look to me for the time throughout the day as though I’m an autonomous object with ever-flowing knowledge of where we are in time at this moment, yet you set the time. I truly look to you to know where time begins. Every time-change, you let me know where we should be in time, and from then on look to me for answers. All I know stems from you. You, not I, are the master of time.”
