The Church & COVID-19

Jesus taught us that where two or more are gathered in His name, He is there with them (Matt.18:20). Now that we cannot gather in groups of ten or more, we feel how much we’ve taken that promise for granted. God is with us in our private worship, but may we never again take for granted the privilege we have in this country to gather in our churches for corporate worship.

As we’re distanced from one another in our homes, our strength is renewed as we wait upon the Lord (Psa. 139) and put our hope in Jesus. The same Jesus who rose from the dead on the third day, trampling down death by death, taking victory from the grave, is at the right hand of the Father now, hearing our cries (Rom. 8:34).

We are reminded all around the world that this life is fleeting, like a vapor that appears for a short time and vanishes (Jm. 4:14). We don’t have as much control over time, life, and nature as we believe we do. I pray with all of you that God immediately delivers us from this COVID-19 virus, for the God we serve is able to save us from anything (Daniel 3), but even if He does not, He is still good.

When we’re able to gather again in church, in parks, in shopping centers, in restaurants, and beaches, Lord willing, it will be with joy and a renewed mission to spread the Gospel. To save all who we can for the kingdom of God. May God take this cup from us; nevertheless, His will be done (Lk. 22:42).
